I think the "alternative browser" users are just as annoying and holier-than-thou as the "alternative OS" users.

"which execute arbitrary code under Windows"

"The reports indicate that links in a Web page using the "shell:" scheme can execute arbitrary programs on the user's system. The attacker would have to know the location in the file system of the program, but there are known programs in Windows with buffer overflows."

"This means the attacker could create a link in a Web page that could execute arbitrary code under Windows. Through the use of an appropriate META tag, the attack could load without the user having to click a link explicitly."

Seeing a pattern here?

Alternative... hehe, that's funny. I'd have to agree with you that Windows isn't an alternative OS, because it sure as hell isn't an alternative for me.

ALso, how long did it take to fix that flaw? 24 to 48 hours? Refresh my memory, but how long have you been waiting for the upgrade to IE6 which still has almost all of the same bugs as it's predecessor?

Also the "mainstream OS" and "mainstream browser" users are not only holier than thou, but quite often misinformed... making them much more dangerous.

Now, it's true that Mozilla and Firefox are inherently more secure than IE

And the Mozilla Foundation has been more willing than Microsoft to confront the problem head-on, even announcing a $500 bounty for every critical security bug anyone can find.

the guys that wrote that also says he uses Firefox and the only thing he doesnt like is the lack of active X

oh and if you look on the eweek site, scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a whole bunch of articles on some problems with IE and also look on the right side of the screen at the related links section.

activeX, like client side VBscript, should be outlawed.

java, and javascript, have taken over, respectvly.

I heard people talkin about Mozilla a few days ago and I just said fuk it and got the new firefox....and i am very satisfied....now i really realize how bad IE does suck balls...

I never said IE was better than any other browser, nor did I say it did not have its problems. I simply stated that, in their relatively short lifespans, Mozilla/Firefox are already plauged by problems similar to IE, and they're not the godlike browsers that everyone makes them out to be. Also, the first article states that, as those browsers become more popular, they will be more problems associated with them as malicious hackers/users start to find the flaws in them. The reason IE is attacked so much is that a vast majority of the population uses it. Only a small percentage of slashdot nerds use Mozilla/Firefox.
