you don't...

i had to put mine on the floor and zip the flywheel and clutch on...

if you have really long bolts holding the engine you can loosen them to try and get room but this is not a good idea at all...

i did however find a good way to get motors off the stand by yourself...
i just tipped it over so the motor was sitting straight up from the floor, then gently rolled the motor over onto its oil pan and removed the stand...

Before I had an engine hoist, I bolted a stand to a Chevy 350, then stood it up.. Even that was hard as hell to do. Those 350s weigh about 2.2 billion pounds.
good god man...
you;re a monster...

i can pic up a bare block d16 with no head, rods, pistons, or oil pan
lol

tipping the stand over is a hell of a lot faster than setting up the crane
and if i can manage it i;m sure you can hulk...

Dude, I can throw a bare D16 block. Ok, not very far.
lol
i wasn't bragging about it... just stating how weak i am i suppose..
and yea, i threw one through the front window of a passat before it got sold for parts...

then we used a backhoe to slam a 350 block through the windshield too :)
