IMO, rap album sales are declining because listeners just can't relate to the lyrics anymore. All mainstream rappers talk about now is how much money and expensive shit they have. It gets annoying to say the least. That is why most of the major label artist focus on beats, the lyrics for the most part, are repetitive and lame. Most of the respected new rappers started out great IMO, but after their first album they became sheeps of the industry. They don't truely express themselves anymore. This should be a wake up call to all present and future rappers out there to start making songs that the ordinary fan can relate to.
Take Chappelle's Block Party movie. All artist featured on that movie wouldn't be considered popular, but they have more lyrical talent than 95% of the popular rappers now. It's truely sad that the rappers with a voice aren't heard or even respected by a majority of their taget audience.
Oh and get_nick, you sure that wasn't Chris Rock who said that? I remember him talking about that during one of his recent stand-ups. Although I'm sure Chappelle said it too.
