BBC NEWS | Europe | France to ban smoking in public
umm, correct me if my math is wrong, but isn't 65,000/365=178 deaths per day and not 13?
5000/365 = about 13. They're worried about second-hand smoke, not people who choose to use it themselves.
yea...where i live...all public places got smoking banned...
here too, but this is france we are talking about here. have yall seen the professional or kiss of the dragon? smoking in public is what the french do. who will they be without their public smoking.
Smoking is a tough debate. I'm not a cig smoker but I dont mind if someone else does. They pay to live here too why not let them do as they please. BUT on the other hand, I can see how expecting mothers and stuff would like to avoid it. Like I said, tough...
Holy crap, France actually did something right. Wonders never cease.
France has nothing right. they are on the edge of Sharia law, and if you can't remember, they had rioting there for like 3 weeks straight and they merely locked their doors. Hundreds of people died violently, and still no one is brought to justice.
France is a piece of shit nation, yet STILL the apple in the eye of your common democrat. I don't get it.
that makes sense, i stopped reading after about half way through, as i was going i realized that i couldn't care less about the french, and the fewer the better. So they probably said that, but I overlooked it and was only examining the total number.
Wow, that would be like telling Americans to stop smoking in the 70's.
If I couldn't smoke outside where I live, then I wouldn't live there anymore. Yes expecting mothers and shit don't want the second hand, but you know what? Their mothers gave them two legs that allow them to walk away from a bunch of people smoking. Seriously if this keeps progressing I can see a ban on drinking in bars.
Up in the fire areas of Colorado they had a ban on smoking outdoors.
It's banned here in WA, and I can't say anything bad has came from it. Even my smoking buddies agree that it is useful. I hate coming out of the bowling alley smelling like smoke for 3 days.
Yeah, I actually don't mind it. A lot of bars have added outdoor areas that are nicer than indoors. Nice patios and shit.
As far as smoking while people are eating - I don't know how I did that. I remember when I was a kid people smoking in grocery stores and movie theaters. That was odd, now that I think of it.
You're missing the intent of the laws. Secondhand smoke harms people who otherwise wouldn't be smoking. Your sitting around drinking doesn't harm anyone except you.
sure it does. i get beer spilled on me all the time, then i get pulled over for a dui even though i haven't been drinking cuz I smell like alcohol.
Far fetched, sure. but the Mcdonalds coffee bitch won too......
True, but that situation is easily remedied by a breathalizer or a roadside sobriety test.
Sharia law... Jesus. Your neocon spewing gets funnier and funnier.
Some idiot tried to tell me a study was done that proved second hand smoke isn't dangerous at all. Obviously, a load of bull, but has anyone heard about a study like that? Not being a smoker I don't follow that stuff so I couldn't really argue with the guy (and I didn't want to, he was a total tool).
