Hrm...cranking the boost without an upgraded headgasket...that IS dumb.

Stupid brits.

Smashing!

hg as in inches of mercury, a pressure measurement?

I was about to say, the only thing you need to do to blow a supra head gasket of that year is to simply drive it. it will blow on its own.

My headgasket hasn't blown yet. 150000miles and still going strong. Except mine is a 7m-ge :( .

7MGE same difference. Ask Airjockie - Mine ran 12.x:1 compression because the fucking head was decked so many times. And it's a pain in the ass operation too - I've got it DOWN TO 21 hours.

the 7MGTE will handle over 22 pounds boost with stock internals and head gasket - Why we saw a head gasket blow here is not a fault of the boost. It's the fault of it being a 7MGTE.

the 3rd gen Supra after 1987 (Back me up on this Trappd) has a warning light that come on when the head gasket blows. It looks like an icon representation of the Parthenon. It's a picture of a radiator. (Basically, the pressures in the Radiator go nuts (As Clayton now knows) and the light comes on - Supra guys know this as "The Blown Headgasket light") (Trappd: It's on the left above the temp.)

I love how the trifecta of MKIII Supra "first" modifications lists as;

1)Metal Headgasket

2)Boost controller

3)Downpipe

Interestingly, I used to be in the market for a MKIII Turbo, but half the cars I looked at were either expensive low-milage jobs, or modified ones with blown HG's. Changed a headgasket on an old Escort, and never again.

Escort HG is a walk in the park.

Save your 3rd gen funds and save up for a 4th gen. No one fucks with a 4th gen, not even an SE.

As far as cheap Turbos, I find them all the time, I had to kick 2 out of my bed last year because I had no where to put them. Free.

Well, I don't have one of those lights above the temp gauge. Probly due to the fact that I have an 86.5.

The main problem for me isnt the HG, but rather a slight overheating problem.

Im getting rid of it sometime next year because I just dont like driving it anymore.
Most likely gonna get a TA or something along those lines :shrug2:

May be it. My 87 had it. Temp gauge is all the way on the right, as I recall ?

No, you're getting a blown head gasket. The temperature in the Supra should remain dead level on all circumstances. You're on borrowed time.

That's a new path with a Supra owner. Usually TA guys come to Supra. For the price, check out something from Porsche - It's very similar. I almost got rid of the Supra for a 928 I found for $4000. I have, right now, a Porsche 944T for $1500. Black on black, heart attack. That's actually their value now, so don't go thinking you can't afford one. You should also check out the RX7 2nd gen (no more generational change years - NEVER buy a generationally new Jap car) if you want something more flickable.

-> Steve

Or, just make the change I did and get into a CRX :)

In my supra, the temp gauge is all the way on the left.

I had an overheating problem, but that was really due to me being a dumbass not reading the owners manual.

As far as a 2nd gen rx7, I looked at a 1st gen a while back and it was extra small. Couldnt even get inside of it, lol.

The TA was just an idea, I really dont know what I want. I will have like 10-15k by next year so I got alot of options.
