awww you bought a starter kit?

Next year use egg containers, cheaper and you get to eat the eggs.

yeah, i don't have any egg containers. they were $3 and come with a plastic lid too so it's the same price as if i bought 2 dozen eggs :D. I'll keep the outer containers for next year and start saving some egg containers.

Nice man.

I got a couple egg containers too with some starters. I actually start in cotton balls first. Works fine.

The only thing I don't like about the egg containers is the fact that you have to take the plants out of them. I use the peat pots for a couple of reasons. One they hold moisture so I don't have to water them as often and two when the seedlings are hardened off I can simply cut apart the peat pot trays and plant them in the ground without having to remove the seedling and possibly disturbing the root balls. To each their own but for me the relatively low cost is worth the time saved in the process.

I have always had really good luck with the Jiffy greenhouse.

A little bit of water and the pellets soften up and hold moisture, once the seedlings mature a little they stay in the peat moss and go right into larger pots/ground.

Todays to do list completed:

Built the raised bed
Put some leftover compost items in it
Ordered 3 yards of top soil to be delivered
Moved some of my taller seedlings to individual "Mini green houses"
Planted some new items

Items planted so far:
Tomatoes
Bell peppers
Zucchini
Green onions
Romain lettuce
Sugar snap peas
Rosemary
Chives
Basil
Cilantro

Pics to follow

nice. a few of mine are popping through already. I'm planning to do the outdoors sometime this week.

A few of my seeds have popped over the surface of the dirt. I'm wondering if i should re-cover them with more soil or just let them be.

It would be a good idea to cover them back, the taproot is light sensitive and if it is exposed to light it will stop growing.

already some signs of life after just 5 days.

B and the rest of you green thumbers have inspired me to see about starting my own garden out at my parents place. They have about 1.5 acres that they keep a couple of goats in. So it shouldn't be to much of a problem to build some fencing. The lady and I are working on a list of stuff we would like to grow so hopefully we can get started on it here soon. Hopefully we can can some tomato's and corn. I really want to start making some home made pizza again.

I am going to stop and pick one of these up tonight or tomorrow. It should save me some time, water and mosquito bites this summer.

Rain Bird Gardener's Drip Kit

I am also contemplating getting trenching it into my lawn so I don't have to move it when I mow. From what I gather I just need to get it a couple of inches below the surface of my lawn and blow it out at the end of the year so it doesn't freeze.

growing fast now. here's 3 days later.
