DIY- Tyvek Wallet
ok here is a step by step for how to make a wallet from a USPS envelope
DIY- Tyvek Wallet
you will need:
Tyvek envelope from the post office (11 1/2" x 15")
ruler
scissors
razor
15-20 minutes
1 -- start with the standard Express/Priority mail envelope from the USPS
2 -- cut the glued seams off... there is one along the bottom and one down the center of the back... be careful with the one along the bottom, you want that cut to be straight and even
3 -- open up the envelope and place it face down
4 -- fold the bottom edge up to the seam where the top flap is... make sure this is an even fold
5 -- fold the envelope up again... make sure this is an even fold
**you can reverse the directions for steps 6, 7, and 8 to put the stripe down the other side of the wallet**
6 -- cut the right flap off at the seam
7 -- open the envelope back up and cut out the 2 panels on the lower left
8 -- measure about 8 1/8" from the left seam, and fold the right side... then cut out the 2 panels on the lower right, as well as the piece of the adhesive flap at the top (makes life easier if you cut the flap at an angle)
9 -- cut the center folds on both sides creating 4 flaps... trim off a little of the edges of the flaps at slight angles... trim the flaps to about 2 1/2 - 3" in length
10 -- fold the top 2 flaps in
11 -- fold the bottom half up
12 -- seal the adhesive flap
13 -- fold the bottom half up
14 -- fold the flaps in to the same hole that the other flaps are in... this creates the card pockets on either end of the wallet and the main pocket
15 -- fold the right side in (about 2 5/8")
16 -- now fold the left side over (again about 2 5/8)
17 -- now reopen the wallet and figure out where you want to cut the card slots
you can cut the card slots vertically if you prefer that layout... its your call
18 -- reopen the envelope and put a piece of cardboard or thick paper behind where you are going to be cutting the slots so that you dont end up cutting all the way through the wallet
19 -- refold everything and load the wallet with your stuff
the empty wallet is less than 1/16" thick and is only 1/2" thick loaded with 10 plastic cards/IDs and 8 paper/business cards
that's all there is to it...
