I hope they have the forsight to shoot it down while it's entering orbit. All that space junk is going to fuck us up in orbit.

One piece of garbage hits another satellite, hundreds of bits fly off it it, take out 40 or so more satellites, then you have all that garbage out flying around....

We'll be trapped on the surface of earth forever. That's what the Chinese want anyway.

great now they are going to pollute outer space. Get some astronauts up there and clean the shit up. period. Spend our billions of dollars on that.

anyone know how much an astronaut gets paid?

Q. What is an astronaut's salary?
A. Salaries for civilian Astronaut Candidates are based on the Federal Government's General Schedule pay scale for grades GS-12 through GS-13. Each person's grade is determined according to his/her academic achievements and experience. Currently, a GS-12 starts at $65,140 per year and a GS-13 can earn up to $100,701 per year.

Military Astronaut Candidates are assigned to the Johnson Space Center and remain in an active duty status for pay, benefits, leave, and other similar military matters.
An entry level NASA astronaut gets paid $60, 743 - $71, 780 an year.

Clearly they're shooting it down so either the Chinese don't see the technology we have on the satelite or because we're testing out our satelite defense/missile offense after Puttin's little threat to aim nukes if Ukraine joins NATO.

sure, pay for the astronaut is kinda low.. but think about it.

you work, what, 2 weeks a year? how often do we have space missions? not too often...

i think astronauts train all year long for this shit

but there's only like room for what, 7 on a shuttle?

wtf do the rest of them do?
and how many astronauts does the US emply?
or the world?

An astronaut in training is part of the Airforce payscale, and makes short of $130k.

Single mission Astronauts make $500k a year, mostly Airforce salary for training, speaking engagements, consulting and documentation. Multiple mission flights adds to value and consulting fees, making the pay range skyrocket from there.

An astronaut has a hellish schedule. They are at work all the time. Constantly training, engaging and doing paperwork.
