You heard wrong then. Right now Intel is eating AMD's shit across the market except in the mobile.

Server: Opteron > Xeon
Desktop: AMD64 > P4
Dual Core: X2 > PD
Budget: Semperon 64 > Celeron

And most often, the AMDs are a lot cheaper considering the performance/cost ratio. The only way Id suggest an Intel system if its a mobile or a lot of multitasking where the Hyper Threading helps. But if you do alot of kind of stuff, might as well get a dual core step that would benenfit a lot more than HT.

Just an update!!!! I put a 1G RAM in my dell and I can play WoW with ease. So I know that AMD will play it with ease as well
