Gsr Boring

    I was wondering how much it would cost to bore out a gsr to 2.0liters. Also what else has to be done to make it work. (for ex. new pistons, sleeves, etc.)

    You'll need new sleeves because the stock GSR sleeves won't hold an 84mm bore. Those run $1000 from Golden Eagle installed. Then you need 84mm pistons those will run you around $400-$550 depending on what you get (forged, cast may be cheaper if you can find them). You should do rods while you are in there, and some pistons require them. Eagle H beams go for $350-$385 new. That's a good start.

    i take it if you bore out a gsr, you give up all hopes of legally smogging the car in ca?

    no, you can still smog it. Get a vfac and cut all of your fuel back when inspection time comes.

    Actually boring a GSR block to 84mm will only give you 1.9L because of the short stroke... In order to get 2.0L out of it, you'll need to go at least 84.5mm. Now an LS block with 84mm bore will be 2.0L... I think "Calesta" (not sure about spelling) broke down the formula for displacement in one of these posts around here.

    Smogging in CA- shouldn't be a problem if you can pass the sniffer test. They're not going to rip your engine open to make sure that it's still stock bore and has stock pistons.

    Displacement- yes it was me, and no there really isn't any "formula". Hopefully all of you have finished the 7th grade and know how to calculate the volume of a cylinder. It's not hard.

    Here's the breakdown by bore (again with more detail), since it takes all of 2 seconds to calculate each one... and just for your info, these are all calculated using the GSR's stock stroke, which is 87.2mm.

    81mm bore = 1797.365476cc (this is the stock GSR geometry)
    81.5mm bore = 1819.62366cc (this is OEM overbore, you can get these size pistons from Honda)
    82mm bore = 1842.018817cc
    82.5mm bore = 1864.550948cc
    83mm bore = 1887.220052cc
    83.5mm bore = 1910.02613cc
    84mm bore = 1932.969181cc (this is B20 bore)
    84.5mm bore = 1956.049206cc (this is B20 OEM overbore size)
    85mm bore = 1979.266204cc
    85.5mm bore = 2002.620175 cc
    86mm bore = 2026.11112cc
    86.5mm bore = 2049.739038cc
    87mm bore = 2073.50393cc (largest bore most people will say the GE moster sleeves will go)

    That should tell you where your displacements will be with different bores in your GSR engine. You can safely go to 81.5mm on your stock sleeves if you want, but I wouldn't suggest it unless you have to bore out that half millimeter to take out some minor sleeve damage or scoring.

    I made a spreadsheet with all those values on there for all Honda cranks and bores by every .5mm... but I guess that's how you got all the values too.

    keehnel1414 where in ca are u located...?i like in san diego and i know someone that will bore for 15 bux a cylinder....soo 60 dollars if your interested jez IM me rwjaquay and he is a profession, not jez a random person.....
