How come the H23 swap not recommended for the EG/EJ 5th generation civics?.......i got offered a H23 motor for $200 that needs a little work.......but I check the recommended swap thread and its not recommended. Can anyone tell me why and the advantages/disadvantages of doing this swap?.....

h22 and h23 swap are the same except the h23 sucks for a number of reasons

first its heavy as fuck...
second, its not worth all the work, fabrication, and customization for only 160 horse...
and finally the H23's are piece of shit
they can NOT hold up to a beating
you'll get piston slap or spun bearings or rods through your block...

trust the experts and go for h22, or b18 ls, or any vtec b series
or mini me, or ANYTHING but h23 shitbomb

can anyone disagree with this?.......

i heard a h23 block with a h22 head will give me quite some power there.....and plus $150 for a h23 motor with tranny, ecu, shift linkage, etc... I mean if I had 3500 to get a h22 or better yet 1000 to get a b18b than i would agree.....but 150 for a h23 doesnt seem like a " h23 shitbomb" to me unless someone else can prove me was some serious cons

don't have the time to give you a full answer here, but h22's less than 2000 from hmotors, and by the time you get everything you need for the h22 head swap, vtec oil/water pumps, head, ecu, oil squirters, you'll be better off going full h22, in short, if your going to do the work, do it right, h22!

ok, you need MAJOR modification to mate an H22 head with an H23 block
it will cost you more to mate the head than it will to just get an h22 swap, search this site for info on h23/h22 hybrid, it has been done by people on here but it is costly

and yea, the motor is cheap, but it needs work right???

i mean you do what you want
it will be torque
and of course fast...
but its a lot of work, and a lot of customization, and a shit load of weight

you will also need to either get or make custom axles
lude axles with civic outers MAY POSSIBLY WORK
or else custom swap axles are around 500 to 600
you need the shifter cables for the new trans
you need a mount kit, around 550 ish from hasport

an h22 should cost you under 2500 for the actual swap, not including mounts and all the other shit mentioned above

you need to calculate the cost of everything and then figure out horsepower to expense ratio and see what gets you the best value for your dollar

it will be fast, but only TRULY good for straight line drags
it will nose dive in the corners, and probably understeer and shit

you can help this by getting custom swap springs designed for H series motors in your car
better springs to handle the weight and keep your car driveable

it will be fast and lots of torque
but be advised that the MOTORS can NOT take a beating
i have seen so many of them blow up... trust me
they spin bearings if you wind them out...
not the best performance wise motor to choose

but it would be UNIQUE, and i would enjoy seeing it under the hood

go for whatever makes you happy, this is just my advice and personal experience
