This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It's worthy of your consideration.

Join the resistance! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by summer and it might possibly go higher! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around earlier! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of 2007, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

I skimmed untill I saw this:
For the rest of 2007,
and then decided that I'll just stick with not bitching about gas, because it doesn't do shit anyway. And I'll just shop at Giant Eagle and use my fuel perks less frequent so they build up more.

these things don't work, ever.

if you want to lower gas prices, don't buy any for a month

Too bad we can't really do much as individuals to make an impression on other countries...

And Im sure there is a large group of people who want a change, but that large group of people are all the people saying " Im just one person what can I do?" You know what Im saying?

And say it did work. This is what will happen:
Exxon/Mobile lowers their prices
Everyone else lowers their prices to compete
Lasts a week
Prices skyrocket again
People bitch some more
and we do this waste of time proposal by a coke executive that was supposed to work in 2007, so about 1 fillup.

Sorry, but I'm not going out of my way to buy gas from one place or another, especially since I go to Get Go 99% of the time, and it's right on my way whereever I am.

Honestly, tell this to someone who travels for their job. Even though they know gas prices better than anyone, I'll bet you that you get a response like "Fuck that, if I'm driving and I need gas, I'm stopping at the closest gas station."

I wonder what the 2008 proposal is? :p

Haven't bought fuel from either in a year and a half

I buy from Costco who has the cheapest fuel in town, I pay for it with my American Express so I get 3% back, or roughly 11 cents a gallon off. Then I keep my card paid to ensure there's no interest.

If oil companies want to nickel and dime I can nickel and dime too

I travel a lot for work. I can fill up in Mass for 20-30 cents cheaper a gallon than in CT. I fill up in CT, since I don't pay for the gas. Its more convenient for me to fill here in the morning instead of wondering if I will have enough gas to stop here or there. I know I shouldn't do this but I will pay a few cents more with the company van to find a gas station that has the thing on the pump so I can be lazy and not hold the pump the whole time. I fill 22-29 gallons at a time so its gets tiring after a while. Plus I can use the time to get smokes while its pumping.

In my truck I fill up at a Mobil most of the time. Why because they are usually the cheapest and its on the way. Plus my truck seems to run better on it than with Citgo.

My god Jeff, you walk away from a pumping nozzle ?!

Also CT has wildly fluctuating prices for several reasons: Not the least of which are town-by-town regulations on the gasoline composition, and varied tax areas. Assachussetts just has one gas "Communist".

just put the gas cap under the pump handle.

IN my cars its attached to the truck so it wont reach, I used to do that all the time. I know I can cut the stupid string but one a company vehicle I can't.

Wedge a zippo and a roman candle under it. It they don't stick, sprinkle some blackpowder or flint shavings on it for more friction.

Or just get a big capacitor and wedge it underneath.
