.... first. you find a shop, you know. a building to work out of. if you find one that has lifts and everything still in it, you'll be set.

That'd probably help him run a shop by himself, but I do'nt think it'd help in the long-term.

    heh, really?

    The basis steps are

    • pick a name
    • create a business plan
    • submit business plan to state to become a business and register for an EIN for taxes
    • find a place to run said shop
    • insure the place, yourself, your staff
    • crate payroll systems, w2 stuff for taxes, etc etc
    • learn how to write proper English, using commas and stuff so your customers can understand your billings, etc.

    bah, i give up

If you don't have the ambition to research what it takes to open a business somewhere, then you don't have the ability to run the business IF you can even get it going. Nobody is going to hold your hand and give you all your answers.

One of the most common, overused sayings in any successful business is "Fail to plan, Plan to fail". You fit right in to that category.

I dont know where you live but I tried to open a small car audio and security shop where my dads old shop was and I had all kinds of people stopping in and calling and alot of my old customers from my last job knew where I was but no one was biting even tho I was cheaper then all the surrounding shops. The economy caused me to shut down shop. There are alot of thing to think about and keep in mind when going out on your own. I still do side work here and there while working full time for Progressive. I plan on trying to open again depending on the economy.

if you have the money and drive then you can do it. sadly hondaswap is not the only place you should be asking the ''how can i start my business?'' question.

like injen said before you just have to make sure your decisions are pretty well thought of before you excecute. i think they say the first 6 months is the make or break period.

i would a small shop like an ex super lube or something. once you ge tht eclientel then slowly move up to a bigger shop.
    good luck

didn't this guy post wanting to open pc repair shop too?...
edit: NM, was for this same thing.
maybe u can run out of ur house garage if you have one and ur zoning allows it. or maybe work w/ existing gas station that has no service station.

find a storage unit that has a garage door. put up a sign, and start wrenching. it's pretty simple. take cash only, do it all under the table. have people bring in their own parts.

    yeah, highly illegal here too.

must be licesensed, insured for like $1million minimum for property and $10 mil for people, etc etc.

here's an idea that could work
look for a used car dealer with a shop/garage
sometimes they have the lot, but they don't do mechanic work
you ask to rent garage space from him
then you can help him on his used cars on the lot, and he helps you with a legal place to work
my friend did this and made out pretty well for a while
