You guys do know that the republicans and democrats are seriously looking into a regulatory commission on the import of oil and prices right as we speak....
ah hahahahahahahaha

right...
hey guys, lets all get together and talk about this problem for 3 months and hope people get used to it before they realize we won't be doing a damn thing about it

and who is the one person that can stop this???

you guessed it. and all he has to say is talk about alternative fuels. Circumventing the problem does NOT SOLVE the problem. I learned that in 1st grade I think.

The President can't stop this, is the idea. The President/Congress/Legislation can stop the problem on the homefront, also known as Exxon and the other money hungry oil tycooners, but it can't stop OPEC.

The country walks on egg shells regarding the oil issue, and always has, for one reason - we rely on some of the most unreliable people over in the Middle East. If OPEC were to tell us to go shove, we'd be in finnacial ruins unless we forcefully took the oil. There's simply not a system in place that could save our oil dependent asses, if we were cut off.

The manufactured oil crisis of '78 wasn't fixed by the president in office, and I find it hard to foresee that any one president is going to get the job done and solve this problem. Its been a reoccuring problem that went away for a short while, so we let our guards down, only for it to come back and bite us.

at this rate, we'll be well past 3.50. it's practically already there in Cali.

I see this happening as well, but who cares...its California. :p  If it wasn't for the tree huggers in Cali and their retarded legislation, maybe they wouldn't have legitamately bankrupted two of the largest power companies in the ENTIRE WORLD. California is lucky it even still has an economy, given its HORRIBLE legislative decisions in the past.

I use shell fuel. and there's an exxon right next door to where i gas up that has cheaper prices on both gas and smokes.... and i STILL go to the shell station instead. I totally agree with you.

Since I was little, my father instilled this mindset into me, mainly because of the position Exxon took during the Valdez incident. It wasn't until I started researching Exxon that I learned that its the company of the devil, scum of the earth. ...yet people focus in on companies like Halburton and Enron and Exxon goes on unnoticed - its bullshit. I'm 100% positive that Exxon colludes with other oil companies to fix prices and lines the pockets of any politician willing - regardless of party. They've proven time and time again that they defy all the rules and laws. A simple google search will bring you a cubic fuckton of all their infractions in recent years.
and once again, if there's anyone who CAN break them up.... It's Bush.

He can't break them up, thats not his branch of government. The judiciary branch would have to decide its time to put a stop to this nonsense and break them up. We all saw what happened with Microsoft, they were found guilty and supposed to be broken up and then the judge who decided this was thrown off the case and Microsoft received a gift from god - a slap on the wrist and nothing more.

Talk about lining people's pockets.

we should just accept the fact that Gas in Europe is $6 a gallon and we should enjoy our "cheap" gas while it lasts.
Petrol prices in the UK are mostly because of taxes, not the actual price of the fuel.

But, it's ok there. In most other countries, there are good mass transit systems.
Yea another good point is that it was at that price over last summer when my cousins visited. My uncle actually said that its cheaper to fly to Paris for lunch then fly back, then to actually just drive to Paris one-way.

damn, i missed a lot. im always out of the loop!!!!

wOOt for filling up once every two weeks!! But im doing a lot of driving to nyc and boston this summer... fuck.

so according to B's second chart, we are actually importing MORE oil, yet still paying HIGHER prices?? i thought price was suppose to go down when supply went up? oh wait i forgot about demand ...

Price never goes up when quantity goes up.

Price goes up when quantity demanded goes up. :p :p :p :p econ 101.

Sean's studying marketing, why would he give a damn about rationality or numbers or if something is really possible?

OPEC sets the price of oil per barrell, not the US importers (directly anyway).
if it costs 70 bucks a barell before it even hits US soil, its 70 bucks a barell, wether it goes into the ground, or into our gas tanks.

Actually even OPEC is saying that prices are too high. They're trying to reassure the world that they can meet the demand and that there's no shortage. The free market is simply offering to buy at the prices they're selling for, no one in their right mind would demand their customers pay less.

Some sources here.

I don't know if there is a shortage of oil or anything. But I still remember checking my stocks not that long ago and seeing a headline that says big oil had the record high profit for any us company. With that said they are at least making a fortune off of us, they probably could make a price cut I think.

I disagree. Brazil will be energy independent by the end of this year. How can you argue that becoming energy indepenent is not a solution to the problem?

Of course, that would require MASSIVE government funding that would have to diverted from the current war fund. And of course, what sense does that make

I don't know if you've checked but unemployment is down from what its been in recent years.

I do believe that although the war is putting the United States into debt, its providing work for many Americans.

War time economy = best economy.

a cubic fuckton

:) :bustout: :lmao:

i love it... i will use that

You've never heard that before, or seen me use it on here?

*fuckton* is my word, and its so large, I cubed it.

im familar with the "shit wad" the "shit load" the "ass load" the "shit ton" the "metric shit ton"
but i have never heard of the "fuck ton" let alone the "cubic fuck ton"... im having a hard time comprehending how fucking HUGE that must be

that just might be the actual measured size of the universe

My company just raised our service rates. thanks to gas being 2.96 here now, we were having a hard time making ends meet. Especially between three trucks running 5 days a week the gas bill comes up to 600+ a month.

I thought the gas prices are also going up because of Federal changes into what can be put into our gas so they have to change some stuff around, thus increasing price. On top of that, the refinaries can't produce them fast enough because theyre isn't enough of them?

Anyway, this fucking sucks. On an 00 Accord, its taking $40 to fill up and $35 for a 96' Accord. It used to be like 30 and 25 respectively. Because of this, my trips back home are a lot less frequent once a month as to once every biweekly or even weekly.

I agree our public transportation sucks ass, as least in the Sacramento area. The buses are hourly and don't really correlate on where you have to be on time. I work at 12:00, but the bus leaves at 10:55 and the next is at 11:55, so that means I'm usually 45minutes or so early to work and have nothing to do if I take the bus occasionally. Also, don't even let me get started on the school buses. Always fucking packaged to the point where you can kiss the other person if you tilt your head 1-2 inches.

Oh well, can't really do shit now except suck it up. Unless someone gathers a ginormus march or something. Whatever, college makes your poor regardless.

Socialist state . These people feel that the federal government owes them for something... like buying SUVs and running their plasmas to the tune of an extra few bucks a month.

People really need to get real.

By the way, Read this:

http://wolf.readinglitho.co.uk/downloads/T...odern_World.pdf

It has a bit more of a sadistic view of the future, but it's one that I can agree with. You know what ? I'm starting my own gas thread.
