How do you find out year of your H22?

My friend just got an h22a and doesnt know if its a 92-96 or 97-01. Its JDM and the block #is H22A. Is there anyway to find out without asking the ppl who sold it to him? Also what are the differences between the two? he was going to buy pullys but doesnt know if there is a differnce between the 92-96 and 97-01. thanks

Did he get an OBD1 H22A? If so, if he wants pulleys for a JDM H22A, tell him to get the pulleys for the 92-96.

You can find out the birthday for the engine based on a stamp on the head of the engine, above the exhaust manifold.

it's stamped on the head. there are 2 or 3 "dials" stamped in and a circle that says the year in the middle of the head. check that and that was the year it was manufactured.

Don't all 97+ h22 have h22a4 stamped on them where it usually reads h22a?

All USDM 97+ H22's, yes.

is all depends on if the engine is usdm or jdm
jdm=h22a
usdm=h22a4
a number normally comes after the usdm engine code
