I just sit on the corner of a busy freeway off ramp in a lawn chair with a case of beer and a sign that says "nEED woRkz"

Hasnt failed me yet.

Sit down and read a book about tax code. I'd gladly teach morons about a real mouse before I decide I'm going to be miserable day in and day out.

So it's just the difficulty of the work that's the problem ?

Where there too many (insert your race of choice) waiting outside of Home Depot in the morning with the signs.

That's just it, it's not hard. It's a tedious, code checking process. Big 4 CPAs have been quoted with saying the tax code is too immense even for a gifted CFO to get a bearing on, let alone master.

As someone that spends time with a lot of accounting, audit sucks. My roommate works at a big 4 letter named firm which is mainly composed of auditors and says they mainly hate their jobs. The only time its fun is to kick the suggestions back and bill a ton of hours for the hive.

Have you started volunteering or called a recruiter yet? The sooner the better man.
IDK what it is, I find audit interesting. But it is definitely the most stuff shirt, conservative part of accounting.

I've talked to tons of recruiters. Only one has shown any promise with getting me a job. I'll still talk to all of them though. What else am I doing? I'm going to start volunteering my services. We'll see how that pans out.

1) Lmfao!

2) No, Im just a lazy American. I dont like standing and looking eager. Or working hard for that matter. Sitting in a chair, with an occasional nap is way easier.

I've looked everywhere, between the couch and the fridge, and there are no jobs to be found. Tomorrow, I'll check the basketball courts.

I know how you feel man I was the first child in my family to goto college and graduated. I was so pumped to get out there and do what I went to school for all just to find out I dont have enough exp. And I was fresh out of school so I couldnt really have any. So I work for a crappy gov. Funded facility helping disabled adults (which I like helping people) , but since its gov. Funded there is a pay freeze and a earned time off/benefits freeze.

But you still get a an adjustment for inflation every year. My roommate worked for a federal branch and his benefits far out weighed mine working in the private sector. Pay was marginally less, but next year he gets a pay bump, following year gets another pay bump. Then step increases guaranteed. He couldn't stand the bureaucratic lazies though. He recently left to go work in the private sector at more than double his salary (he has some fancy technical degrees) and has much worse "benefits" besides monetary alone.

At my company you get a pay increase solely based on merit. Get a new job, get a raise. Stay in old job, don't get shit. Once in a blue moon they'll throw you a 1% increase for inflation. Not annually.

at least your pay is staying the same, instead of pay being the same and the medical draw from your check just goes up every year, resulting in lower wages

My medical is definitely going up. Went up $21 dollars out of pocket a month this year. I pay $161 out of pocket but have pre-existing conditions that need work all the time. Zero $ deductible.

i pay 44 bucks a week for some bullshit
no deductible, just copays
went from 25 to $30 just for an office visit
$50 now to see a specialist
I think emergency room is $100 and hospital inpatient is $1000

its going to be fun to see the bills stack up after tax season when i get my shoulder redone again
i wonder if the 3 times a week for 8 weeks of physical therapy is going to cost me $50 a visit.

I miss benefits. At my old work, it was really nice of them to give free health insurance if you averaged 25 hrs+ week. $20 co-pay, no deductibles and pay only 10% of charges. On top of that, if you qualify and opt out, they cut you a check for $400 every quarter.

Back on topic, my dad always grinds my nuts with his dumb ass quote, "it's not what you know, but who you know." True, but its annoying to hear every time he asks if I got accepted to Pharm. D. school yet.

My wife works for that same 4-letter firm as an auditor, and yep it sucks. They all see it as a stepping stone kind of job... Get some experience down in the audit trenches for a later career in accounting.

omg! you mean you understand now that college doesn't = 100k salary job?! someone tell occupy!
But I studied French AND Folk literature. What do you mean I can't get a job?!

I'd be kicked out of Occupy for having a legitimate degree. But seeing as I would never be there in the first place...

Word. He starts at GS, then there, now moving on. I have a couples friends my roommate helped jobs there. One is a tax attorney with masters in accounting, law degree, cpa, etc. Makes good money but work sundays. LONG sundays.

Same Roommate just put his 2 weeks in to go work for a two name top 15 accounting company in an investment group. Same pay but 100% bonus opportunity. Always a huge stepping stone. Put in the grind, do the hard work, then shop yourself around.

Kind of like a rookie contract in football. You go out for not much risking the chance or catastrophic melt down looking for that big pay day if you kill it with better hours.

yep. Trades have apprenticess and other 'helper' level people to start.
offices jobs are no different. It's not what you studied.... it's what you can show me what you can do for me/my company.

It doesn't work that way. We are in the digital age.
You code? show me a website.
You math? show me some formulas that you helped solve.
You weld? show me some metal pictures \m/

Lol, that last one has got me my last few jobs. Its not about what I tell some one I can, but the work Ive done that they have seen.
