How do you remove the spark plug seals on a d16z6

I have a little d16z6 that is leaking oil. I went to my local friendly honda dealer and got a valve cover kit. I replace the valve cover seal and the bolt seals with no problems. However I cannot get the old spark plug seals ot unseat out of the cover.

What is the trick to get them out?

If they're old and you won't be using them anymore, just spear them with something sharp and pry them out of there.

I tried that the soft plastic seperated from the outer ring and now I have to get the outer ring out

I grabbed a friends snap on (mmm snap on) breaker bar and the popped right out. I had zero luck using pliers.

damn, mine weren't that hard....i just pulled them with the needlenose

I used my car key to get mine out....it worked....
I found its harder putting them in, then taking them out
