how hot does a b16 run? like the temperature of the block. in particular the area around the intake manifold. i ask this because my friend owns a mech shop, and i was wondering if he could make me a gasket out of plastic. but i need the know about how hot a motor can get.

thanks,

120 is the bottom line, 220 is the red, 180 is 50%
Is that how hot the block/intake side gets?
I know those temps are normal for water temp.. but block temp is the same ?

Yea, I have an infra-red thermometer. The block gets to about 180 degrees at operating temperature.

I've been wondering that myself for some reason. Excellent info!

I just tested my thermostat last week and it opened at exactly 153 F. This was the thermostat that came in my B16A Sir II. Here was my test method:

1. remove thermostat
2. slightly open and hang from a wire (i used MIG wire)
3. hang thermostat by the wire into a metal container so it is about in the center.
4. place a thermometer near thermostat in the water
5. heat with a torch until thermostat falls from wire

YES I am aware 153 is very low, my temp gauge rarely goes over 1/4.
