Sold the Civic, Got a 2000 Insight with 83,000 on it. 5 speed manual. 1 owner, lots of service history. New IMA in 2010. Had to drive to Cleveland to get it. Made a day of it and drove around a bit. Put 50 miles on it and the CEL and IMA lights came on. Eep. Took it back to the dealership, they're gonna look at it monday. Gave me an 09 Accord in the meantime. I liked the car though. Runs pretty well. We'll see how this goes.

The manual is WIERD to drive. I loved that thing though. I was gonna lease one in 2000. It was so strange hitting the gas and watching the tach dip.

The manual ones are RARE. As far as I know there is only one 5 speed 1G Insight in my entire work parking lot. That is saying something. My favorite thing is the sticker on the battery cover that says "You Will Be Killed!" if you tamper with the battery.

Well, the dealership called today. Bad IMA battery. They're on the horn with HOA trying to get me taken care of. Until then I'm living like a 60 year old retired CEO of a small time business driving this Accord. I seriously have no idea what to do with myself. It's so kushy.

The dealership is replacing it for free, because I just bought it. Otherwise I'd go buy the 87 accord hatch down the road and start looking for a K-swap for the insight. Its strange that the IMA is bad again, since it was replaced in 2010. Its a 1 owner car, and the PO brought it to the dealership for all maintenance other than some oil changes. I didn't notice a new control module last time they changed the IMA, and they told me they're changing that this time. The vehicle only has 83,000 miles on it, why has it gone through 2 IMAs so far?

batteries degrade over time after 10 years it is not unreasonable to expect that they would need to be replaced
they didnt replace the control module when the batteries went so that is likely what failed now

a few warnings regarding the insight

the brakes overheat pretty easily when driving it hard... the rims, while aerodynamic, do not breathe well
it will go 113 at the top of 3rd gear but anything over 100 is sketchy as hell on 165/65/14s (you will lose speed shifting in to 4th)
the insight is the definition of a "velocity car"... slowing down has consequences
60-65mpg is readily achievable driving sensibly... and after getting 60-65mpg no car will impress you or remotely satisfy you as far as fuel efficiency goes
you will develop a deep disdain for Prius... Priusi??? Prii??? Priuses??? whatever... and Prius owners/drivers... you will feel the need to pass them any time you happen upon one

thats all i can think of at the moment

i do. on both counts lol.
i hate the looks of the prius, but it fits the needs better than the insight.
maybe if i can pull it off in the prius i will get an insight to do it to and use it just for going back and forth to work.

my new "most hated car to get stuck behind" is that new volt.
i swear to god, no matter what the speed limit, they will always do 15 under. pisses me off so bad.
