Let me start. I bought this motor and it is poss to be out of a 99 si with 80,000 miles and i have the trans. I would like to put it in my 96 civic hx D16y5 and I drive alot and need it to be dependable. I also drive very easy almost all of the time. I would like to build a motor to have some balls and yet still get good gas mileage when i am out of the gas peddle. I would like advice. should i get cams and higher compression pistons. I am new to honda i am a American muscle Guy i have 3 AMC JAVELINS but i need advice.

The B16 trannies are known for having short gears. That's good for acceleration but not necessarily for gas mileage if you have a heavy foot. You'll definitely want to shift and accelerate like an old lady during normal driving.

As for how to build the motor, refer to what Blanco said. How fast do you want to be? How much power do you want to make?

I am thinking 2g on the motor i would like it to last for 200.000 miles i would like to get more then 200 hp out of it. if i can. thanks alot

jrsc...
at least thats what I'm planning on for my gsr hatch. People have ran thoes well over 100k miles w/o problems (besides belt replacement). 6 psi will put you right at 200whp with a good tune.

if you'd like to do a mild build get p30 pistons to bump the compression a little bit.. and at least CTR cams, springs and retainers..

I am looking to go all motor i am not sure about the power i just want it to get up an go be fun to drive. i could spend a little more then 2g but thats just around what i would like to spend

is the wiring harness on my 96hx d16y5 the same as a 99si>?
Is the ac bracket and pump the same?
power steering pump?
motor mounts?

that stroker kit is a huge overkill for your goals. do a compression test on your setup. If if checks out then its more than up to the task of 200 whp.

the ac pump is prolly the same, but not the bracket. the mounts will not work. You need mounts from a 99-00 si.

Yea i mean i want alot of power. i can get the cam springs and cam and a valve job for 200 bucks at a shop so i need to get some cams and springs and valves and maybe that stroker kit. give me some power. BUT IS THE WIREING HARNESS THE SAME? Motor mounts? Power steering pump and braket? thanks alot

no kunkles said if i get them the springs and cam and they will do a valve job for 200. Or if i just want a stock valve job it would be 200 bucks

Sorry about that. do you guys think if i just leave the bottom end the stock and do cams and springs and plain the head that it would wake it up or do you think that i should do the bottom end also?
