so i'm on the can playing solitare on my phone when suddenly there's POUNDING at my front door. WTF? none of my friends ever do that... so i clean up and head to the door and no one is there. odd.
i turn on the lights and lite up a cig on the porch thinking nothing of it, or that it wasn't even my door at all (neighbors had guests over... could have been car doors closing, etc (mind you im in the bathroom with the fan on))

then i hear sirens. nothing out of the ordinary.... i'm a side street off a main road (state route) so they go by all the time.

then they turn off. great. someone wrecked at the end of my street, i think to myself.

nope, they are coming this way.

1 cop cruiser and 2 ambulances rush up the neighbors driveway. followed shortly after by the neigbor (wife) running down the street. must've been her who knocked.

so, i run inside and turn on my outside lights on the side of the house to aid in visibilty (its dark up at the top of our driveways... set in from the raod a ways).

And that's when i noticed the neighbors friend lying in the back yard motionless. oh shit. Well, there's not much i can do now and the EMS people are here so i kinda just hang back and watch.

I'm still not 100% sure what happened. they all got in a car and chased the ambulance to the hospital so there's no one to talk to.

They WERE cutting down some trees earlier (before dark... over an hour ago since the sun set and before i went to the can :D no biggie... they've been clearing brush and small trees on and off all summer at the back of their property.

didn't look like a tree fell on him (he wasn't even in the rear of the yard where they were clearing) and i hadn't heard the chain saw in over an hour so i don't think he cut a finger off or something. I dunno.

I guess the moral of the story is, i was on the can when the neighbor needed me... kinda feel like ass because i thought nothing of it and took my time wiping my ass and getting to the door. Hope the guy ends up ok. His wife was crying and the neighbor was making the sign of the cross over and over again so i don't know.

Hrmm.. Could have been a heart attack from working all day long.. Or heat stroke or something.. Or he could have just passed out from dehydration. Who knows.

Shit, hopefully he's alright and pulls through. I'd hate to have that on my concious. I've been in a situation like this and was lucky to know first aid and be there on the scene early.

Regardless, there was nothing you can do now, and it was just bad circumstances. Given you knew the predicament, I guarantee you would have ran dropped trou and all.

it's not hot out... its 68 right now. i'm guessing he's in his 50's. not too old. i dunno. They did wrap him in some gauze stuff (coudln't see what or where) so i'm assuming it was an injury, not a heart attack/etc.

I saw a dead neighbor of mine get taken out a few years back. And just last year I watched two cops jump our back fence and order someone out of their apartment at gun point. Id maybe take the family some flowers or something. Maybe cook them some food or something too if it is bad.

When my grandmother passed away last year that was the best thing anyone could have done was bring food. No one had to worry about cooking, doing dishes etc. It was all already done. Flowers are nice and all but do nothing other than look pretty for two or three days.

Search Heavenly Ham if you can't cook(I know you can B, but for everyone else's info). Amazing ham dishes you can have delivered. Just hope they're not Jewish.

As for feeling bad, when I was younger my younger sister fell of the jungle gym and stopped breathing. Cops, ambulance, whole 9. She turned out OK after all was said and done. Guess where I was the whole time? Up in my room playing video games. I didn't even know the police and ambulance were there until after they left. I'm trained in first aid and CPR and have been for probably more than ten years now.

Maybe B was eating butter and the smell caused his neighbor to pass out?

Damn. I have found myself in a similar situation this last couple days, more like today really tho... Hope your neighbors are all good.

Around 8:30 or 9 pm last night, my cousin lost control of his car while going about 50ish thru this crazy ass storm that came in. I was watching fucking rise of the lycans. My uncle steve was also in the car.

This morning I found out and was like 'i feel like an asshole'

Went to see him after they came home from the hospital, his neck and back are hurting and that's it.

Oh, yeah and the part I almost forgot to mention... The final resting place of his 09 Accord, it was at the bottom of a lake, 30 foot deep at that. If his airbags had popped out and rendered him and my uncle unconscious, I'd by far be telling a different story right now.

There's probably not much I could have done either at the moment, but man it makes me feel like an asshole finding out so late, I mean hell it coulda been worse news.

It was probably a neck brace. They always seem to put a brace around peoples necks for the ambulance ride.

Don't feel like an ass, you couldn't possibly have known.

I had a great uncle that the same thing happened to. He was cutting down trees all day and his wife went out to check on him and she found him dead laying beside the chainsaw. He had a heart attack.

    Hope your neighbor is okay.

    just talked to the neighbor...

they were cutting branches off a tree that they had already cut and dropped... it wasn't lying flat because of the branches holding it up. the neighbors friend (who is th eone that got hurt) cut the wrong one and the tree rolled on to him pinning him under it. broke his right arm and 2 ribs but will be ok.
