Hey, I have a 99 hatch, and am in the process of taking out a few interior pieces.
While taking the rear seats out I noticed a large piece of metal that goes from one side of the car to the other, just in front of the rear seats.
Looks important, does it need to be there kinda like a strut/torsion bar for the body?
As well, Eg's are the lightest right, but can I get a Ek down under 2000 lbs?

Not sure about the bar you are talking about.

But sub 2000lbs is possible. It can get expensive the lighter you go. Carbon fiber pieces (so many pieces can be replaced), Lexan windows, aftermarket trailing arms, light wheels, etc.

I say you remove as mug as you can. Bumper braces can shed weight quick but I don't advise that if you drive it on the road. It's a risk no matter what but a dumb idea when sharing the roads with the rest of the world.
