iPod charging; new cable with old ipod

I know the newer iPods won't charge with the older cables, but will the newer cables work with the older iPods?

My friend is giving me his 2G 8GB Nano; and the only cables I have are from 1G Nano and 4G and 5G Nano.

i had no problem with using the cable from my 30 gig video to charge my 1st gen iphone. when i had a iphone. so you should be fine
