Has anybody here driven eg's with both these swaps as a direct comparison?Obviously the k20 will be faster and more $$, but I'm more interested in the driving camparisons of the two engines, personal experience.

would you say that the K20 is worth the extra cash?

    Cheers,

I talked to a dude with a K20 eg hatch. he said (obviously) power was awesome but he said it was also a pain in the ass. In shitty road WI, he was driving down the interstate and hit a huge pothole and it took his entire oil pan right off. He fabbed up his own oil pan and was ok, but he said the his ecu kept fuckin up and he had to take it back to the dealer to get it reflashed like 6 times, $100 each time. He claims he wouldnt go k20 again. I know they are harder to work on too with the drive by wire.

Is he using the hondata Kpro or the JDM ITR ECU without the imobilizer? Why does he have to get it reflashed?

He was using hondata Kpro, not sure why he always had to get his ECU reflashed, but I doubt its really common. I just remember his complaining about it all the time.

yea, he said it sat closer to the ground. From what he told he, if he were to do it agian, he would rather go GSR or B20vtec. cheaper, easier to work on, more parts available.

    okay k20 2.0L
    b18 1.8L

    b18c5 = high end power
k20a = minimal high end power

    type r stock 200hp
    k20a 210hp

    all stock on car
k20 wins with a lot shorter tranny ratio and final drive 4.785

not from experience it varies who is the driver and by reading specs you can see who will win prior to seeing an actual race

    case close
    no more;)

Ha. Have you seen how hard a k20 pulls in the top end in an EG hatch? Its indescribable. K20a makes great top end power. As for who will win between a k20a powered hatch and a jdm b18c or b18c5 powered hatch, it would depend on driver but the k20a does have decent tq numbers.

PS. ITR FD is 4.715 or something close to that.

Nice try with the advice though.

If you have the money for a k20, sure, do it. But do it right. Don't take silly shortcuts on the wiring. Buy the right harness, get the right mounts, and do it right the first time. Don't expect to pay anything less than 7-8k to get it in and mounted up though. Thats a common misconception; Most look at the price for a k20a complete swap and see that it is not too much more expensive than the itr or ctr motors and say "hey thats not too bad". What most forget is you will need motor mounts (~450 for decent mounts), an exhaust (stock k20 exhaust sure wont work), as well as other mods you decide on. Then there's suspension, you'll want better brakes and suspension for a 2liter. Most swap that out while doing the k20 swap.

    Anyway, hope this helps.

K20's have lots of top end..I had a k20a2 , but of course that was in a heavier RSX-S.

but, I've never driven or ridden in a b18c EG or EK hatch, much less a k20a swap, hybrid-racing seems to everything for the swap though. I just wouldn't wanna swap a b18c and then down the road wish I had saved more done a k20a, thats why I wanted to know how they compare from driver experience.

Havent really heard much from ppl who swapped a b18c-R into an EG though.

k20a $8500? I assume you mean the full swap costs and not just the engine + tranny etc combo.

K20a's & ITR's go for almost the same price, but ITR's are bolt ins & K20's got all that extra mounts, wiring etc.

    I liked the videos though
