Knock sensor

I have a 96 dx hb and i put in a d16y8 ex engine for now and i havent wired the knock sensor is it really nessesary ??? and it weird i have an intake and my friend 94 d16z6 coupe has the same just an intake and he smokes my by a whole car,.???? any ideas

and without the knock sensor plugged in, you are throwing the ecu into loop mode, and thus killing the performance potential of the car.

d-series motors do not have a knock sensor. If your throwing a check eng light you need to pull codes to see what the problem is.

Incorrect. The Y8 had a knock sensor.

Anyhow, as pissedoffsol said, your are probobly in limp mode. You need to hook the sensor up.
