LCD screen instead of normal guages

lately a lot of cars in magazines and shows have had there guages on an lcd screen instead of the instrument cluster...how? do i need a special program? is it expensive...how can i do this and what do i need? any help appreciated........

pioneer makes a new in-dash tv with a whole shitload of guages on it..other than that i dont know.
