license for dual purpose bike

I pretty much want to avoid the DMV and just need a vehicle for work. Is a license required for those dual-purpose dirt bikes? I know it depends on the state law, but they allow people to get scooters with no license.

i think in NY the no license bikes need to stay all the way to the right and can't excede 30 mph or some shit...

Keep in mind, most states do not let you ride/drive any motor vehicle on a public road unless it's tagged and insured.

This doesnt mean people dont do it, but if you run across a cop that has had a bad day. say bye bye to your ride.
