Adding a lighter flywheel does not add any hp (if it does it is very minimal no where near it feels) at all it does help out acceleration tho .... lets just say for instance you have a rwd car and you have lets say 3.31 gears in the rear end and you put 4.11 gears in there you gain acceleration but you dont gain any hp.... you def get a huge gain in acceleration tho.

you will gain hp b/c heavy flywheel uses some torque to spin it, and hp=measure of torque at a rpm. use a lighter flywheel then youll have some torque that was loss at the flywheel go to the wheels. if you know how pulleys increase power, then youll know the lighter flywheel is the same concept; decrease power loss. but the lighter flywheel would store less energy, so when trying to cruise youll use up more fuel b/c engine has to keep the car moving.

You store less energy, but you still use the same amount of energy to run the car at a constant speed. The energy stored in the flywheel doesn't mean you need less power from the engine to maintain speed- it just means that you'll have less power LOSS when you get off the gas. That's it. Your mileage will be the same. I didn't have any change in mileage when I went from stock to an 8 pound flywheel, at least not on the highway.

So basically all you guys are saying is that by lightnening a flywheel or getting a lightened flywheel you are freeing up power wether it be horsepower or torque and less resistance means less wasted energy to move that object.

So by lightening the fly wheel it increases the rate at which your car will rev down and rev up.. So that increases the speed at which you will reach the maximum RPMs and the speed at which you will reach the maximum Speed in each gear (improves acceleration), right?
But, does it Decrease the maximum speed you can reach in each gear?
