I really like my Nikon D50 I can take decent enough pictures with it.

The thing to keep in mind with a DSLR is the glass is just as important as the body.

My wife is selling her lightly used nikon d60 w/ 18-55 nikkor lens with camera bag for $500 shipped. It might come with a couple other things too so if you're interested let me know.

She doesn't use it because she has a d90 for her business and now wants a canon 5d or 7d.

If you are looking to buy used (and that's the only way you'll get a decent setup in that price range) check out KEH. They are well known and are a very reputable company. They are also known to rate the condition of an item a bit worse than it actually is, which is good for you. I've bought stuff from them quite a few times and the items were always in the correct or better condition than I expected. Ebay can be a good place to buy, but if you don't know what to look for, you can really get screwed on there. To be honest, that price range doesn't give you many options. Just from taking a quick look on KEH right now, it looks like you can get a D40x or D60 with a kit lens for about $450-500ish. anything less is only gonna be like 6 mp and you'd probably be better off getting a cheaper 35mm camera and using that for a while.

Looks like this is right on par with what I found, so Damien, you may want to think about this offer because I'd probably trust another HS member before getting online to buy something. BTW why does your wife want a 5D or 7D when she shoots nikon? What's wrong with the D300 or D300s? I just stepped up to the D300 a few months back and absolutely love it.

Thanks Dustin, I have been around for awhile and should have a pretty good rep and certainly wouldnt be trying to screw anyone.

She doesnt think there is a huge difference between the 90 and the 300 series unless its for action purposes. She will be keeping the 90 and her lenses but she thinks Nikon has slowed down developing new cameras and just using the architecture of the d90 and spinning off other cameras from that. I dunno, I use my iphone to take photos so I dont really know a ton about it. I know she has been looking at the newer Nikons for awhile and decided to start looking at Canons. I think she is going to rent one and try it first.

Here is a photo of the kit.

That's partially true that the D300 is better for action, but that is also true with the 7D as well. The reason I mentioned the D300 is that it is on par with the Canon 7D, and the D700 is comparable to the 5D. There are some differences, but for the most part they are comparable. I'm not sure what your wife has invested in lenses, but it seems like it would be a pain in the ass to be running two different brands and buying lenses for them. I checked out the D90 when I was about to buy my d300, and I can say that anything over the d90 is much different in size and the way it feels, it's a whole other level of camera. They basically have 3 lines, which is similar to the other companies, the consumer line (which includes the D90), the "prosumer" line, and the pro line. Canon is gonna be basically doing the same thing by creating a new camera off of an old one that did well. Just something to consider.
