my car has this persistent engine check light,well i took it in to the specialists and the ecu told them there was an engine speed fluctuation error,the technician told me the M.A.P sensor was to blame,,,what bearing does this sensor have on performance and fuel consumption???????????????

everything.

map = manifold absolute pressure.

basically, it measures the amount of air pressue in millibars, and based off the ecu, it distributes the proper ignition advance/retard and duty cyucle for the injector at said rpm.

if its faulty, the ecu will default to its set "safe mode" program to put you along... basicaly ignoring input and thinking based on sensor input

could be if they are different milibar -> voltage conversions. As for if those two are different, i don't know

thanks for the info pissedofsol,,this M.A.P sensor is a tiny little bugger,im thinking of buying 1 and fitting it today,will i have to reset my ecu afterwards,how do i do that????

i phoned my honda dealer & it turns out the MAP SENSOR is way overpriced @R1200 ,,,,exchange rate is 1usd = about 5.3rands (I LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA)

there's no way im gonna pay that amount for a tiny black thing that looks like it should cost R250,,are the any sites simillair to e-bay that will sell & ship me the dammed sensor for a reasonable price?????,,my last option is the dealer
