So my wife had blackberry through work and they use ATT. Where we now live its pretty hard for her to hold conversations. She looses calls.

Two weeks ago her work switched to the Iphone 4S. Now she can't even have a conversation, period. She has been using my work blackberry while at home, which is on Verizon.

Neither of us has had a land line for the past 6-7 years. I wasn't about to pay $25 or more a month for a land line so she can talk on the phone at home. So, i told her to look into the Magic Jack we see all the time on the commercials. After doing research on it and reading reviews she decided to get one. it came in today.

It's pretty nice. Calls are very clear and it was a snap to set up and $20 A YEAR it was a no brainer to try it out. They have a risk free trial for 60 days. Day 1, so far so good.

If anyone was thinking of getting one, so far i would definitely recommend it.

We got the one where you just plug it into the wall and run the line from the phone and an Ethernet cord from a router into the device. Works like a charm.

Im not sure why but I have an issue with you calling it a "system". lol

Call ATT and tell them that their service doesn't work well atyour house. They might give you a signal booster. I know several people who have gotten them.

its not a signal problem she has 3-4 bars constantly, its just dropped calls. call connects she starts talking, then all of a sudden she gets "called failed". no loss of signal, the call just drops. this has always happened to her with her blackberry but its 10 times worse with the IPhone. Same thing happened to me when i got the Iphone 3Gs on ATT. it's pathetic. Never new what a dropped call was until i left Verizon to go to ATT. I had to cancel ATT and pay term fee because we could never talk to each other with both of us having ATT. it was always a " call failed".

Sounds to me like ATT wants you to upgrade your phone because yours must have some sort of "issue."

I swear, they design these newer phones with a self destruct button. Every newer smart phone I've had starts having weird issues soon after the next two or three models come out (year/year and a half after purchase).

chaz are you referring to android phones?

pretty much all the iphones i deployed here for ATT have zero issues, even less with the 5s and LTE network. i manage 180 phones. the only problems we face are those idiots who break their devices and forget to change their domain password before it expires

OP: Magic Jack works fine. I know many people who use it. My father uses it out of Afghanistan without any issues. I have one that I use when I travel for extended periods of time too.

Have you investigated a femtocell? Have you tried calling ATT to complain about the coverage in your home? I've heard about carriers providing free femtocells for folks with bad signal penetration.

Those symptoms don't mean that it's NOT a signal issue. Your phone's signal indicator is not always accurate. Say hello to "antenna-gate" the other year. AT&T's solution to fixing the ip4 antenna issue was to re calibrate the signal calculator on the phone so it showed full signal strength.

Your best bet is calling AT&T. Also using their app from the app store to report the exact location that the poor performance is occurring. That doesn't mean they're going to change their build out plans to accommodate your area first but as someone mentioned, often times they'll provide either a credit, a signal booster or even allow you to end a contract early if their service isn't performing to at least minimally satisfactory levels.

It's a signal issue. There's no way it's not a signal issue. Your piddly little "signal bars" can not detect the noise floor being raised by internal reflections of the structure. You need a clear two-way "line-of-sight" to the tower.

I'll bet you have high energy efficiency windows, yes?

You need that line-of-sight to a tower, and metallic films disrupt that. Even leafy trees and conifers do a good job at attenuating signal.

Call ATT and tell them that you get unsatisfactory signal in your house. I have a friend who was given a retroactive discount from the time he moved to his new house, and they retuned the antennas so he and his neighbors got better coverage.

Yes I do. Droid Gobal 2. Now that I think about it, I guess its possible it could be a virus or a bloated app of some sort.

Like I said. It's his house. He needs to call ATT and get them to do a survey.

ATT has issues with signal penetration in "Green Buildings." It's well known.

What'd ATT say when you called them about it?
