ive used spybot and its reduced a whole lot of the popups(btw- DONT USE SPYWARE NUKER---ITS COPYRIGHT INFRINGED!). ive also noticed that some of the files that spybot found began with "hijaker". hmmmm.

for real....system mechanic is about the only easy way to look and delete stuff from your registry,I bet thats where your prob is

reformat your comp.....takes it back to the original state you bought it at.....this way it gets rid of everything and you only put things you really want on it.....kinda like a new comp really :)

yeah but I hate having to reinstall all my crap and reconfigure it,if I can get away without reformatting I always try....just reinstalling w/out formatting is ok but not very effective,xp's repiar is ok,restore points seem to never worrk for me but my probs are usually in my registry and system mechanic is by far the best tool I've found to check that

same thing happened to me one time. i ended up reinstalling xp.

just FYI, in xp you can do a System Restore which will restore all your system settings to where they were on a past date. its like going back in time (without losing any installed programs). this feature is in the Accessories section of your start menu.

brian...sorry bout your pop-ups man. i once had a pop-up from hell. my comp would open and play a porno clip every time i booted up. i figured out how to stop it but it was kinda scary lol.

reformatting is a last ditch effort i mean....you will lose everything DLed on the comp....justa suggestion though...

its better now... but im still getting some, after running hijack. i had a couple porn cab dialer things in there  i wonder how those got on here....

i think its time to go through hkey/local_machine/current_user and use my l33t h0x0r0r skills :)

as for formatting... not an option. i have close to 200 GB of music (i mean, legal back ups mr RIAA) on my hdd...

restore point... never turned it on. never found it to be worthwhile. i'll fix it... there's just gotta be some other tool out there that will fin what i have.

ok last time......SYSTEM MECHANIC.......it will get the dialers where they hide ,no matter how many times you delete the program some of them just install themselves every time you restsart .....my favorite tool for my cpu I'm tellin ya try it ;)

ok last time......SYSTEM MECHANIC

kick-ass program. fuck adaware.

this thign owns it. adaware and spy bot shizz will be unistalled :)

i think im clean now too.

and btw...I still use ad-aware,spybot is worthless but mechanic owns and has more than just a registry cleaner.......b glad it helped, did you just get it or had it a while?

check the registry...than restart and look at the registry.look for differences.most ads dont start until you start thier user program be that IE or OE or whatever..delete the ad programs before they start from the reg will prob work

first thing I ever do on a new cpu is cntrl+alt+del and write down what is all in my task manager in a notebook for later reference if you reinstall do this it is the easiest way to see what has changed on your system from day to day...

I'll keep an eye on this thread, good luck
