...is a fucking bike. It was a 20.5" when I got it. Too tall...so I cut the top tube out, then cut 5" out of the seat tube, built some gussets, then had it welded back together. I got a nice short KORE stem and some light riser bars, an XTR chain, and new pads and tires. Painted, cleaned, re-badged, lubed, ready to jump off shit.

Ya it is a TREK. And yes it is a little long but it is super light so I can pop it up pretty fuckin' high.

looks like you did a great job.

only thing that scares me is the lack of spokes on the front.

Ya I rode it 16 miles down to Ventura. It was pretty comfortable. I need a new seat post.

When I cut the seat tube down, the outer diameters were the same but the tube was thinner at the top to accommodate the post so I had to do some cutting and fitting so now I'm using the original post with a slit cut in it so it will compress into the tube. That's as high as it goes. It's not ideal for distance riding.

That was a $400 wheel so I'm hoping it'll be ok

Looks sick, all I would add is some disc brakes, makes me want to dig out the ol Ironhorse.

Only thing is he would need new hubs or wheel for that and an adapter in the back to accept the disc brakes. It is a nice bike.

I have heard bad things about non hydro discs and i dont want the weight of hydro discs...and ya i'd have to dig up a new rear section that probably wouldnt fit. I like V...simple, cheap, light, effective.

Avid bb7s are the only really good mechanical disc brake. I have the bb5s and they work fine but need some frequent adjustment.

I have mechanical discs on my bike and my only real gripe is that it seems the cables need
WD-40 pretty often, other than that I love them, they just have a much better feel.

Interesting...if I switch to a dual crown front fork I will need to get a front disc anyway
