Hi. I hope someone here can help me. I have a VTEC ECU, but cannot find any information on it. The code on the side reads 37820-P6G(PG6?)-X01-940-102235.

The plugs on the side look like this (excuse ASCII graphics)

---- ---- --------
---- ---- --------

This ECU is from a South African spec Honda EK Civic VTEC. The VTEC crossover is at 5500rpm and rev limiter at 8400rpm. The car was produced from 1996-2000, and is a bit of a mongrel, with cable clutch and B16A6 engine with 10.2:1 compression, and can run on both leaded and unleaded fuel.

Does anybody know this ECU? More specifically, can this be used for Hondata? (I have emailed Hondata as well).

Thank you in advance.

I think you're on crack. The B16A6 uses a hydraulic tranny, the ones in Russia do, and I am 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% Honda didn't take a step backwards for South Africa. But anyway, I can't find anything on the P6G ECU, never heard of it. There's the old teg ECU the PG6.

Take a look at: http://pgmfi.org/twiki/bin/view/Library/EcuFamilies
Hopefully, you'll see something that resembles your ECU.
I'd love to have pictures + more info on it :)

Btw, Honda did a lot of wacky things in foreign lands. Don't be so quick to doubt the man. The DOHC non-vtec ZC was used in the UK till 94 by rover in their cabrios with OBD0 electronics... JDM-land got all sorts of motors we never received here, or even different motors with the same block code...

I know all about the wackiness, I live in Germany and see lots of strange Hondas, but I don't think the Rover is going to nescessarilly fall under the exact same specs as Honda, yes they built that motor, but Rover put it in the car, and to save money, they may have used the outdated electronics. And they used the SOHC D16A6, and the DOHC D16A8

I got in an argument with a guy over the B18C6 being OBD 0, he was trying to say that it was, and I told him he was an idiot, as a matter of fact, he was trying to say that ALL Hondas were OBD 0 in Germany till 01, I asked him to explain how my OBD I German ECU throw the same OBD I codes as a US model, and he had no answer.

Thanks for the replies so far.

To 96b16vx, no, I'm not on crack. The South African VTECs (we only had the EK series with a VTEC motor) had a B16A6 with cable clutch. Some blocks had a B16A6 stamp, some just read B16A. They were rated at 118kW @ 7800rpm and 160Nm @ 7400rpm.

As far as I can tell they were all OBD 0. I will post some pics for you guys ASAP.

Thanks again for the replies.

i dont know i researched it and couldnt fing any thing and i also looked in the honda parts program and couldnt find it do they have that good of drugs there.

South Africa falls under the European Market, I guess you'll got screwed. I know another guy from SA, he has a hydraulic tranny B16A6.

Take a pic of your tranny. And you ECU.

I guess this is possible. I always thought that we had the 1st gen JDM B16A motor + cable trans, until I saw a new car in the showroom with a different block and cable trans. It may have been the odd one out.

Anyway, I'm not too concerned about the motor, because I can get import JDM late model B16A + box for about $700.

I would like to know about the ECU. Will post pics this weekend.

It must be a b16cc form the russians :D (inside joke for old school members)

i'm coming up short on anything too.

but it it has 3 plugs, it is NOT obd0. obd0 have 2.

cable tranny... where is the mount for the tranny? is it up front under the radiator? if there's no mount on the cross member there, I've never seen a cable tranny NOT mount there.
I ask because, in the US, as of 1994 in the integra, and 92 in the civics, no b- or d-seires cars have a mount there.

RDM pwnZZZ jOOO!!!!

Ok, the guy in South Africa wrote me back, here's his response to my interagation...

Hey dude,

whatsup. Is the EG the 91-96 civics? in that case we only got the 4 dr version of that Civic. we didnt get the 3 dr, howver the engines that it came with was 1500 carb version making 69kw,a 1600 SOHC making 89kw,the 1600 DOHC making 97kw and later an 1800 B18B3 making 97kw.

Unfortunately we didnt get VTEC before 96 because we didnt have uinleaded fuel. In 96 we started with the 96-00 shape and we got the civics 3dr and 4dr, no 2 drs anywhere tho. in that range we had a 1500 FI making 77kw, 1600 SOHC making 89kw and the B18B4(mine) making 103kw and the 1600 VTEC DOHC making 118kw.

As far as i know the transmissions on mine are hydraulic. Think the gearing is diffretn to that onthe 1600 VTEC, but only slight, but the problem we all complain abt here is that honda made the 5th gears soooooo long, it really kills the car on freeways cos if u gonna overtake u gonna like change down 2 gears. but yeah.

Anything else, just ask dude.
Later.
Sher

Interesting stuff, i'll ask about the ECU too.

I have pics, but nowhere to host them! Is there anyone that can help?

Btw, I discovered that it is an OBD-II ECU (so that answers the Hondata question).

I also heard that the ECUs were given different part numbers in South Africa (this is unconfirmed, but will explain why no one has heard of it yet.).

you can go to http://wiki.pgmfi.org and make a new entry for your ECU. After you've done that, you can upload pictures.

Alternatively, if you send me the pictures, I can host them to you. :)

Haven't posted pics yet, but this is what I found.

The ECU looks exactly the same on the inside as the 96-00 OBD2 Integra Type-R P73 (thanks for the link rabnulb). So it seems it IS a known ECU, with a different code.
