I don't even know how I would pull that one off. I was just going off what they said on the K&N site.

You can't without cutting it open. ;)

Just stick your hand in there and see how far out the velocity stack extends- that's all the information I'd really want.

The velocity stack in question is just a rounding of the inside of the filter from the pipe to where it meets the filter medium. There is a nice step for the pipe to butt up against. I suppose this is to reduce the turbulance where the two meet.
 
Ok, so it's not really that big... probably about the same as the filter that AEM packages with their intake systems.
