my friend finished building his motor.
b18a1 block bored to 84mm.

when he starts it up, its making a rather loud knocking/slapping noise.

he is using a stock LS head gasket. could that be the problem? could the pistons be hitting the head gasket since it is a different bore?

it's not the valves. and there is nothing loose. it kinda sounds like the timing belt smackin the cover, but its not.

any ideas?

hes using an 81mm head gasket on an 84mm engine??????

smack him :slap:

then tell him to get the right sized gasket

I'm sorry, but thats just funny. Thats like Trying to fit a bowling ball into a hole the size of a baseball, and wondering why it doesn't fit... Sorry, but it's a little too big.

Didn't he wonder... whats going to happen to the over hanging Head gasket material?

oh dear god...

please tell your friend to throw himself on a rusty chainsaw blade.

you can order cometic headgaskets for the ls vtec application, oversized bored too I believe. If you go with a stock ls Head gasket, get it bored to match the cylinder bore. What a goofus. Next I suppose you'll be telling us he used a b16 timing belt. :D :p
