Unfortunatly they didn't get the timing right on the 4-cycle engine. Ignition happens before TDC, not during or after. It gives a good general picture of whats going on tho.
He DOES mention that the illustrations aren't totally accurate- they're just there as a reference to approximate what goes on through the 4 cycles. Hell, he drew them all for his 5 year old, not for an encyclopedia entry.
