    help!

    my sound isn't working anymore.

first and foremost, i'm running an m-audio usb audio interface (as it hooks my guitar to my computer).
    installed latest driver, etc etc.

    my guitar comes through fine.

winamp./youtube/ and even windows sounds don't work anymore.

i can see the vol meter move with music, so it's getting sent... it's just not coming through.

when i plug in the usb port, i can hear the normal 'pop' in the headphones, so it is getting some sound through

    nothing's muted
    output is set correctly.

    anything else i'm missing?

this was working fine until i rebooted yesterday.....
no windows updates or anything were installed... just my weekly boot

you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers/software. also make sure the volume is set to the correct hardware. go to control panel then sound and audio devices. Under the audio and voice make sure the tabs are set to the m-audio module.

i have onboard hd and a sound card. sometimes it switches to the onboard after driver installs or watever and i have to manually reset it to the sound card.

if either of the mentioned doesnt work, its either A) drivers got fucked somehow B) conflict with other software/hardware C) hardware failure. have you tried using the onboard to see if that works?

    yeah, i tried all that.

hardware is good, nothing new has been installed... it hasn't failed as it still works with my guitar
i don't have any onboard sound (MB came with a 7.1 module/card that i never even installed)

 weird. i know that on occasion i have to reboot my pc to get the sound working again; generally after i've let it idle for a few hours with itunes open.

mm.. i dunnoe, i would try installing the onboard module to see if that works.. im sure youve tried another usb port. it could be part of the m-audio is messed up and just not the guitar. other than that, i have no idea..

one very most unlikely culprit is a registry error that couldve snuck in. i suggest this because some of the newer laptops that came out with vista had their dvd-roms broken until a registry edit.

    i'm still stumped on this.

last night, not even thinking about it, i recorded some shit with cubase.

    played back fine.

    WTF?
so i did some more digging around.

somehow, the s/pdif output got selected as the default output instead of the line1/2 for my xlr hookups. lol
