I have a 97' Civic EX with the D16Y8 VTEC engine. It has 112,000 miles and at an idle, everything seems fine, barely any noise. When you are driving and you put a load on the engine at about 2,800rpm i hear a noise that sounds like rod knock but its real quiet. I drove my friends dads 00' Civic (170,000 miles)and it makes the same noise, they both sound like they have rod knock, but my friends dad's is much louder than mine. Is this type of noise normal for D16's?
 
if its not that loud....possibly your valves are going out of adjustment...adjust em anyway so thats one thing you have to worry about later....any body agree? :)
 
damn....im 16 and on top of my game wit hondas..lol :p .....adjust ur valves bro :mrgreen:
 
Valves being out of adjustment will cause a ticking noise most audible at idle. Would be pretty hard to hear at a higher rpm. Never heard of "valve knock". :huh:
