and i already had this conversation last night...there is no breaking into that mind of his.

:p

id actually recommend staying 32 bit. Youll never need anything that the 64 bit has to offer unless you are running your own sql server. also, due to the extra digits the computer has to process, 64 bit will run slower than 32bit in a normal user environment (meaning non server)

I had a new dell laptop... it was pretty nice 'til about 3 months later it had a "small fire" inside of it.... lol I dont know what was up with that... I even had a cooling pad thingy. Now it still awaits a new motherboard. And my other POS is just going to be a tuning laptop which is just about the only program that I have on it.

yeah end yourself quickly.

end myself quickly you know how much faster my macbook is then a lot of laptops out there and sorry if your a mac hater but i have both pc and mac and have had no problems with my mac and my DELL inspirion 4600 has crashed 3 times with in the first year but now has no problems figuring it cost us 300 dollars to fix and recover it but its your choice i was just saying i paid half of that and got a mac book then 80 dollars more got me parralles program so now im running mac osx and windows xp

let's not fight in this thread please. a mac is out of the question for me. i'm a windows shop for work, so i need windows gear. no choice.

some people are PC by choice, others are PC by necessity. I've gotten accustomed to my life in linux. unfortunately, i moved back to flash development which means i either work in windows, or a completely relearn how to write flash....im gonna bite the bullet and stay in windows (i could go to mac, but since i have been off the video editing thing for a while, im not fighting for the mac machine in our office).

i KNOW macbooks. go see my hate thread on them. 10.5 comes with bootcamp what are you using parallels for anyways?

good point, chris. i mean, if mac is so all-powerful....why would one need bootcamp?

i dont run windows at all on my personal machines, but stuff relating to work (MSSQL, IIS, ASP) i need to run windows. If you are gonna tout the mac, go back to school and get some real information.

You have to realize, that its easy to run windows, linux and mac on the same systems. Mac moved to intel based code, so even a dell can be a mac. Until you come to terms with the fact that Justin Long was PAID to make statements for Apple, youre still going to be spouting the corporate rhetoric that they have shoved down your throat.

"Mac is for fun stuff that you really want to do". Okay, what about playing video games when they are first released. Yeah, Windows for that (Yes, i know this applies for linux too). What about having full control over your system. Sure, mac gives you a lot of control, but for being BSD based, it sure as hell is limited.

I could go on and on...I really could...I have this discussion at least once a month, and it usually ends up in the Mac guy changing the subject.

Cant we just agree to disagree and get back to making fun of B for having 12 battery powered dildos on his carpet?

Like I've said before. I stand by my dell 700m. I paid 1100 3 years ago, and its running as strong as the day I got it. It was top of the line then, and I got it for 55% off so it was a great deal.

But for me, I have a built desktop. Cost a few hundred and is stupid quick for most programs.

thoughts on this?

its way priceier namely because i upped the ball game to a 30" display.

anyone see any compait issues?

I've been using a Dell 6000 and a Dell 600m for 3 and 5 years respectively. both ran windows xp pro at one point but today they both rely on kubuntu linux and they run like a champ.

Save a few bucks on the DVD writer, I've always had extremely good results with NEC.

No need for a case over $100, I've been using these cases since I wanted a cheaper version of an antec case. Can't complain one bit, I have this case in use on our CAD systems, dual core AMDs, with 4GB ram, etc... no heat problem what so ever. This case should also have a spot to mount an 80mm fan in front of the hard drive as well.

And for hard drives, being that this is a work computer, I'd opt to get two 500Gb drives and do a raid1 mirror.

Also with that 30" LCD, don't forget to buy a dual link DVI cable or you won't be able to display the full native resolution that screen is capable of.

total would be about $485 bucks less than your $3160 pricetag. and if you don't do with two disk drives, it's $525 less.

i've honeslty thought about just ripping out my old dvd writer from my old tower (2 computers ago). its IDE, but whatever... i don't burn too much. I can always get a SATA down the line. either way, its 30 bucks. its a moot 1% at this point. lol

as for the vid cad, yes... I know i need a cable. i didn't see one i liked, so i was planning to go hit up radio shack or something, or even call crutcfiled and see if there's a monster cable for it.
which is also why i wanted to get the little better video card. While i'm not a gamer, i'm sure i will be watching a movie in the top right corner while i have hondaswap on the left, out look in the middle and 3423432 other things running too :D i figured the extra strength vid card would come in handy with the more demanding video card.

FWIW Going back to the first page my Lenovo weighs a freaking ton and its slow as shit. I don't know if all my company's protective software is slowing it down but my 6+ year old desk top is faster than that thing. I have a t60 that is about a year old.
