so, i'm typing an IM to E when out of no where my shit just re-boots itself.

    wtf?

    ok...

so it starts the POST process....

    can't find os.

    fuck.

went through the whole repair process... and i'm back up and running. something must've attacked something...

anyhoo- I had sp2 on my machine prior to this.
my winxp disc is a real SP1 disc

    so, i go to update...

    see the screen shot.

    my computer thinks im sp1
win update thinks i'm sp2 and thus won't let me DL it.

    wtf, over?

email that picture to Bill Gates.

Seriously. Was this a re-install or a repair? As long as you have all the security updates you should be okay. Just wait for sp3.

heres what you do b. buy like a TINY hard drive, and install the OS on the tiny hd. then update through windows update. You shouldnt have any drivers or shit for SP2 on your computer and windowsupdate should recognize sp1

That's weird. I think you can download the windows firewall, if I'm not mistaken. Probably am.

Maybe it's time for a reinstall? I know I'm due for one.

You mean you don't have a dedicated partition for your OS and core programs only?

Older 80gig drive--- (set it up this way so I could format C and reinstall without losing anything on D or E, although everything would have to be reinstalled, no data would be lost)
C: 20 (windows, driver packages, and core apps)
D: 20 (installation files, image files, downloaded programs, etc.)
    E: 35ish (games)

    G: Alcohol 120% image drive
    H: DVD
    I: DVDRW

    New 250gig drive---
X: 99 (media, bit torrent, etc.)
    Y: 99 (empty right now)
    Z: (unformatted space)

EEEeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww you don't know how to set up your M$ system. :p

Go manually download the SP2 package, then install it over your system. Easy.
