a bov saves your turbo from compressor surge

a wastegate regulates turbocharger speed, which regulates boost

compressor surge- when pressurized air bounces off the throttle butterfly when the throttle is closed, making its way back into the compressor housing, wearing the turbo bearings ( it fucks the turbo up :) )

BOV's protect against back peddling (when you let off the gas the pressure between the manifold and compressor becomes lower than the pressure between the turbo and the intake, causing the turbo to spin backwards..... it doesnt have anything to do with the air bouncing off the throttle butterfly... :blink: )
