when i hit high rpms in first and switch to second i have to use a lot of force to get it in or some times it doesn't even go in it just makes a grindding sound! ITs a 90 accord ex what could be the problem?

Sounds like a bad synchro in the transmission or possibly a clutch. But if it's only from first to second I would put money on a synchro going out. Check your transmission fluid level and make sure it isn't low.. if it is top it off right away & try to find a leak somewhere. If it's not low I would replace the fluid (I've heard GM Synchromesh helps on grinding Honda transmissions), and hopefully it will help the problem. If that doesn't help you're probably going to need a transmission eventually as the problem will most likely not improve.

Well dogging the shit outof your family sedan is the reason behind your transmissions issues.

The reason it's hard to get in gear is prob being slightly bent from ripping the shit out of it. The grinding is def coming from syncros. You have missed to many shifts causing excess brass wear. And now the teeth on the syncros are rounded off and wont catch.

Time for a rebuild, but if the gears are bent, cuz 2nd and reverse are one. The gear itself can run 355 bux. So, junkyard is the next option. If its just the syncro's, it can be rebuilt.

btw- why do people drive accords, like they stole em?

but the tranny was rebuild and got a new clutch last year, and the guy at autozone told me to just use the same 10 30 oil as in my engine and i think it was Castrol GTX

    That's actually painful to read!

Well now you know what happens when you get technical advice from car parts counter people, and beat the shit out of your tranny with the wrong fluid in it. Sorry but your transmission is definitely headed to a bad place..

the op's transmission takes 10w30. Dont have to use honda motor oil.

to the op- reguardless of the rebuild, you have missed to many hard shifts, now it needs to be replaced. WHen it doesnt want to get in gear becuase you have shifted to hard and damn near ripped the shifter cables through the firewall, you bend shit internally.

I think Honda MTF would still be a better option than motor oil.. but you're right that wouldn't be the cause of trans failure anyhow.

Honda MTF is 10w30 motor oil.

Honda motor oil is 50/50 synthetic.

From what I understand about it, please correct me if you know other wise ?

I believe that MTF has some additives that aren't in regular motor oil.. the newer owners manuals say this about the MTF "Honda MTF is preferred. If not available, you may use an API service SG, SH, or SJ motor oil with viscosity of SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 as a temporary replacement. An SG grade is preferred. However, motor oil does not contain the proper additives and continued use can cause stiffer shifting. Replace as soon as it is convenient."

I don't have any other source to confirm that though.

some times the pressure plate gets hung up on the input shaft and will not allow the car to shift. i have that problem in my h22. take it easy on the tranny for a while. when shifting does the car eventually allow you to go to second (without forcing it)?

all the gears are mest up now they are hard to shift into even like when standing and to get into first gear is a pain. Could it be the clutch or what?
