It was some chick flick for my girl, "confessions of" something. And the PS2 is like brand fucking new, I've only logged about 10 hours tops on it. It seems to read the DVD's it's just that I cannot get it to start the DVD in anyway.

While it's true that PS2 has some lazer trouble, this is not the case, or at least not to me. Basically, it's just the PS2 can't read that DVD. You have to keep in mind that there are so many DVD encoders out there, and because of that, it creates a bit of incompatiblity. Typically, you don't see this in normal DVD players because everything is done in hardware, but the PS2 is done in software, same with the X-Box, and that's where the incompatiblity really shows. You have to keep in mind, you bought a video game system that plays DVDs, not a DVD player that plays video games. Just do yourself a favor, go and buy a DVD player, you can find some cheap ass one for like $20 to $40.

i don't think PS2's were really made to run DVDs. sure they can, but that's not what they're meant for.

Actually, I work for GameStop, and while I can't speak for her store, I can speak for my store. It is true that we won't except a PS2 that can't read all media, (or at least not for full credit), but it's is totally untrue that just because it can't read a DVD that's it's on it's way of breaking down. (If anything, the most common problem for PS2 is not reading CD based media, ie PS1 games, "blue disc" PS2 games, etc). As for my claim for incompatibility, it is documented on IGN (click here to check it out). Like I said, the PS2 is a video game system that can play DVDs, not a DVD player that can play PS2. In other words, it's main job is to play games. In fact it's main job is to play PS2 games, there are about 10 to 15 PS1 games that won't work with the PS2 (Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Final Fantasy Anthology are the two big titles). Want to watch movies, get a DVD player where it's main job is to play DVDs. Hope that helps...
