Where and why do you want to mount the EGT sensor? I have seen it on many different exhaust manifold arms, but I have also seen in on the intake charge pipe.

the sensor would be useful to know if you're running the car too hot where it might damage something, on the intake it would measure the temp of the air, could be useful for tuning, or just knowing how effecient you're turbo is at that time...

also can give you an indication of lean or rich, lean runs hotter, and rich leaves extra gas ot be burned off in the exhaust, so hotter temps = bad

not true.

the HOTTEST temp the egt will read is at stoich. its bell shaped, with 14.7 being the peak of the bell, and lean/rich falling down either side.

so, with a combo of a good a/f gauge (to see which side you're on) and egt readings, it is useful for tuning the ignition timing curve more than a/f
