So I'd like to paint my accord candy apple red, I'm not to sure exactly what steps I have to partake. Or how much paint I'll need or candy coat. so heres the questions.
    1. are there different shades of candy coat?
    2. how much paint will i need and how much candy coat for a 4dr 97 accord
(I plan on ripping the engine, and interior out to make all the colors mix)
    3. and also, What name brand of paint would you all reccomend? I don't want to spend a whole lot on paint but i dont want a piss poor paint job either.

    Thanks in advance.

That's going to be an expensive paint job if you want to do it right...

When you say you don't want to spend a lot, what is your idea of a lot?

There are some nice factory pearls and metallics that are a lot easier to spray and get a nice finish. Goto a paint shop and look at some factory paint chips, you might find something comparable.

Well, I found some paint chips from a local auto parts store, and its from Dupont but I'm not sure how good their paint is. The color I chose was Hot Poppy Red... $437/gallon. anyone know how much it would take?

    1. the shade depends on how many coats are applied if they put uneven coats you will have dark or light spots.
2.after its all ready for paint you have a base coat wich is usually gold or silver then the candy then the clear so you probly need one gallon of each
3.House oh kolor they have really good candies and alot of colors

I work in a paint shop and we use R-M paint on Lexus, Audi, and Cadillacs. Real nice paint, good for beginners, it's harder to tiger stripe it. The metallic flakes spread out nicely. The clear does not run as easy as PPG. I hate PPG clear it's like spraying water.

    House of Kolor

is what I used when I did my CRX almost ten years ago.

As far as how many colors are available....the sky is the limit. You can mix and match any combinations for different effects. A gold base coat will be different even if you are using the same candy coat when using a silver base. Also , the number of candy coats will make the color change as well.

When I did my car, I used 3 coats of Orion Silver, and about 5 coats of Candy red, 3 coats of clear. All House of Kolor products.

I was just watching some shows on painting cars. I love the candy coats and have wanted that for my rex since I first learned about them. But from what I've heard, they are one of the hardest to do right and take A LOT of time.

    Yes....

It definately takes a lot of time to do. I started painting at 430 am, didnt finish until 330 in the afternoon. Took twice the time I was prepared for.

Look for a company called matrix thats the paint i use at my shop its almost half the price of house of color and almost just as good. Im painting a 97 ek with a candy apple red and ill post some pics when im done. If your not pretty familiar with a paint gun i would not even try to spray candy yourself cause it is almost a sure thing that you will screw it up. If you dont spray it right your goin to double your cost in paint on the redo because it will turn out blotchy or your just goin to be riding with a fucked paint job. if you do it right and add some nice wheels it will definatly be hot :Dbye all means do what you want to do tho
