anyone know what would cause a valve tap only on the intake side of cylinder 4,,,, its a b16b with stock cams and valve train . Would a not properly tensioned timing belt do it. and when setting the timing my crank pulley has [ | } mark and to the right | . Is the single mark lined up with the line on the timing belt cover TDC? or is it the middle of the 3 tick marks on the left?

Middle of the three ticks on the crank pulley is 16 degrees (stock) the others are 2 degrees retarded or 2 degrees advanced.

Check valve lash clearance and make sure your timing belt tension is within spec.

Could be a bad LMA too.

You should do a Compression test soon so you can hopefully rule that out.

Then a leak down test.

No one else will deny these things should be done. Based on what you've said....it can be a variety of things until you rule some of them out.
