How many people have one? ...and how many people rely on it? how many think they're just pieces of shit?

Yes, a Valentine1, no I don't rely on it, no they're not pieces of shit.

Use it as an extra set of ears and a tool that helps you look for cops, not as a shield.

let's just say that I used to have one (a Cobra) and have still gotten tickets. I haven't had a ticket (knock on wood) since I've taken out of my car.

It did help me avoid some tickets but shouldn't be relied on 100%

i got a cheap ass $40 Whistler from wal-mart, and it has saved me many times...i havent gotten pulled over for speeding since i got it back in november, BUT i still get pulled over for stupid shit (no front license plate, tint too dark, exhaust too loud, etc. etc. etc.)...fuckin' texas highway patrol

what model whistler do you have?

my g/f just got me the 1765 one...which i guess was 100 bucks.

and why was it taken away?

I have an Escort Passport 8500

and to quote Mike,
no I don't rely on it, no they're not pieces of shit.

That crap happened to me. I have a radar detector in my car and I get pulled twice. I have been without one for a year and a half and I don't get pulled. Its a mystery.

Maybe you unconsciously driver faster when you have it on.

Oliver- I'll have to show you the V1 in action. It's pretty sweet. WAY better than any Cobra.

how much does a V1 run these days? with as many tickets as i get it would probably pay for itself in a week.

Go check their site. It's the only place you can buy a new one. I would guess it's still $400. They update the logic every year (or less), so it's always fresh.

I have heard nothing but good thigns about the Valentine1 detectors. Don't they detect from front, rear, and side?

If so, that's insane. Defenitly worth $400, I thought they were more actually.

yup the V1 is badass .... detects front and rear (can figure out side from that) has arrows to tell you where the signal is comming from as well as a counter to tell you how many signals its getting (very good for those cops that are smart enough to sit in areas known for false alerts)

i personally dont use them but if i was to use one it would be the V1

The decent detectors on the market have 2 antennas that see front and rear... but the V1 is the only one that tells you where signal is coming from, how many its tracking, where the strongest one is and how strong it is etc. You'll see a lot of crap online saying "you'll never need to track more than one at a time", but it's just that- crap. I've been in SO many different situations where I logged 2-3 cops all within a few miles of each other. With a normal detector I would have been toast, because I would have passed one cop and then sped up, right into the next trap...

ah, other than lacking the direction of where the signal is comming from the passport 8500 can tell you how man signals you are recieving as well. and what band the signal is on. If you're really worried about direction of the signal buy the V1 , if you could give a rats ass whether or not the signal source is in front/behind or to the side then save $100 and buy the passport 8500. or at least a detector with a Superheterodyne GaAs FET VCO reciever.
(Ga=gallium, As=arsenic)

Yup. Those are the deciding factors...

Passport 8500 = more filtering, no directionality

Valentine1 = more sensitivity, directionality
