Rebuilt engine, car won't start, oil filter leaking

I recently replaced engine block, put near bearings and rings on the pistons, put everything back together, and then when I went to start the car for the first time, it sounded like it wanted to start, the starter was operating, and then oil started shooting out of the oil filter. Any clue as to why it won't start? I replaced oil filter, still won't start, oil still leaks out of new filter. Anyone know what could be the problem?

you have oil literally shooting out of the oil filter? or its just leaking everywhere?
#1 thing that usually happens to cause that is that people leave two filter seals on there when they change them(the original one has a tendency to stick to the filter housing), causing it to leak.

as to why the car wont start, im not honestly sure i can even give you an idea without more info. is the car showing any check engine lights?
