I believe i have a thrown rod in my 1990 Honda Civic LX. My question is how much will it cost to put in a rebuilt or remanufactured engine. Which one is the best option? Its a 4cyl automatic with 118,000 miles on it.Also is possible to change the 4cyl automatic over to a 5 speed manual.I also would' mind giving it more balls!!!

Rebuilding it probably isn't worth the money. You can easily replace the motor with a used motor, or even a high performance motor for less cost.

Auto to manual can be done..... Its a pretty big parts list though and not all easy to install.

Ultiamtely, it comes down to your budget, know-how, or access to a shop to do it for you. Otherwise, you're options are anywhere from the same motor auto to a swap + manual with a lot more power and goodies.

you can go the used engine route for cheap. you take a gamble an what you get but its cheaper than the rebuild and you dont know yet if your block can be saved but its only 30 bucks more if you need a block for your rebuild. but the rebuild alone is like close to 1300....maybe 1100...at the lowest. and around 500 worth of parts for the full warranty (3-years) if it were done in my shop. plus the 585 for labor in my shop (remove and install engine). now shops in your area might charge different and their rebuilds may be cheaper. but i have one of the best warranties and i use honda head gaskets timing belt, balancer belt (if applicable), distributor cap and rotor, and oil pump. i also use new head bolts, and you get new injectors plus a crap load of other parts. most shops wont come close to mine on warranty or parts quality. if cost is an issue, just drop a used motor in your ride

yes. but sometimes you have over-sized pistons or bearings. but still, if its done right it will look new and run just as well. sometimes a little better :)
